Despite the uncertainty of the past two years, it seems that America’s belief in the long-term investment value of homeownership has been, is, and will always be, very strong.
For the eighth year in a row, research shows in a recent survey that Americans regard real estate as the best long-term investment when asked to choose among several options, including stocks, gold, savings accounts, and bonds. Over the past 11 years, real estate has been gaining ground against these other investment options and now stands at its highest rating since the survey began.
In fact, this year, 41% of respondents chose real estate as the best investment, up from 35% a year ago, with stocks a distant second. With Americans holding this belief, it is not surprising that the U.S. housing market surge that began before the coronavirus pandemic has continued through the economic disruption caused by the virus, causing home values to rise to historical highs.
